There are days when the fog of anxiety(or depression or stress, whatever it is, whatever word you use), lifts, it just lifts and you look around and for a brief period the sun shines, your head is clear, your sleep is good or even just one of those.

You wish life would always be like this.

Lesson the first - do NOT sit and ANALYSE this. Do not try and work out why you were stressed and what you can do about that or how you are feeling better. Just live in the moment and learn how to do that more each day.

Lesson the Second -

Learn meditation. Properly.

Lesson the third

PRACTISE IT YOU PILLOCK!!! :)

Today is a better day. Merry Christmas all.

Please note that lessons are purely personal and are not given as advice to others. ;)

Not aimed at me I know, but it's relevant word for word!

If you ever figure out how to get regular meditation routine established with an ill brain that can't concentrate, plan, or even sit quietly, please let me know. I also fail at regular yoga - I know enough to make my own programme, maybe even teach a class, but I don't do it, which is shit.

Those clear days put it all in perspective don't they. And yes I spend a lot of them thinking 'WTF?'. I'm glad you've had one though :-).

*hugs*

The advice I've got is that you need a reasonable clear head to start doing something like a regular meditation.

I'm not sure I could do it when my head was really fogged, it's only been the case that as I've started to come out of it that I can start putting into practice some ways of managing my life to stop myself falling into it again.

The last few days have been a big improvement for me. I've got a night out with Jacquie (and her friends Derek & Caroline) in the coffee house this evening. So I'm looking forward to seeing her for the first time in a couple of weeks.

I'm working up to Christmas Eve, and then off until 3rd January. Happy Happy, joy, joy a week off!!! :):).

I've always found that the best way to do meditation successfully is to do it as part of a regular group session rather than trying to do it at home by yourself. I can't switch off if I try and do it at home, but if I go to a session at the Buddhist Centre or somewhere then it works a lot better. It really does make a big difference.
Have you ever tried tai chi? I've been going to a class most weeks since September and it's really odd, I can't explain why but I really love it and it's really relaxing. It doesn't feel like you're doing very much or that it's making much of a difference to anything, but then if I miss a week I really notice that it has an effect on my mood. It's a total mystery to me why it works so well, but it really does!

So glad I looked at the comments. Didn't realise Lj was still so busy.

I just came on to say that Metta is my number one anti-depression meditation, and that I found it really hard to do it when I was on my own. What helped was having a set time each day when I knew I wasn't the only person meditating, and a plan to share a few words about each daily session after the event. So, find a meditation buddy!

Thanks for the comments and thoughts guys. I hadn't thought about group / buddy work, food for thought.
