Sound desks and DI boxes, 

a friend has asked me to look after a band / PA that has been set up a while back as a dedicated system ie it stays in one room, but has been more than a little messed about with.  

Now when the DI box is switched on I'm getting masses of mains hum, any suggestions as to possible causes or things I can do to trouble shoot?

Thanks, but I don't have a budget to contact Tim on a business basis and wouldn't ask for his advice, which is his livelyhood, as a favour.
