Why doing stuff in the wrong order never works (pt1)

Today I went to look at a flat to rent. It was lovely, less that ten minutes walk to work, no one above, bit of garden, proper double glazing with nice views. Rent the same as present + the cost of monthly bus ticket I won't need anymore if I live there.

Unfortunately I haven't actually handed my notice in on the current flat and can't afford the overlap.
